Lights, Camera, Action! Ice Skating Showtime is here!

The Stephen C. West Ice Arena hosts ice skating shows each winter and spring.  These shows highlight local figure skaters along with elite quests and provide fun, family entertainment right here in Breckenridge!  Aside from solo performances, various age groups perform routines that coincide with the bi-annual ice show themes.  The upcoming winter show to be held Friday, December 12 at 7PM is “That Was Then, This is Now”, showcasing songs that have been released and then re-released at a later date.  Songs will be a mix of old and new, leaving viewers with a wide variety of performances.

New this fall, a re-vamped group skating class has been designed titled “Showtime”!  This class will be offered for Senior (adults, any level skater), Junior (ISI skating level Delta – Freestyle 4) and Youth After School (ISI level Pre-Alpha).  Showtime instructors will lead participants in a choreographed routine that will be performed during the winter show.  Participants will not only learn new skating skills, but will work with one another to put on an awesome show all while having a blast.  Whether new to skating or a veteran, the Showtime program is a fun way to meet new people and put skating skills to use in a creative way for your family and friends to see!

If interested in more information on how you or your child can become a part of this new program, check us out online at http://www.breckenridgerecreation.com or see below for a brief description of each class!

Showtime: Youth (After school program)

Has your child completed several Breck Skating School classes and is ready for the next step in the skating world? Enroll him or her in our Showtime: Youth program that meets afterschool on Mondays. Figure or hockey skates….it doesn’t matter! All that’s needed is for your child to want to shake her/his booty and learn choreography to a skating routine to be performed in the Winter Skate Show, “That Was Then, This is Now” on Friday, December 12 at 7:00pm.  Basic skating skills are required for this class. ISI level Pre-Alpha preferred. Invitations to participate are sent to students who have previously passed this level. If you have not previously taken a Breck Skating School class and would still like to participate, please contact the Ice Programs Coordinator at (970) 547-7883 in order to discuss skating skills and on-ice expectations.  Transportation is provided from Upper Blue and Breckenridge Elementary.   Students are provided an afterschool snack during this program. They then skate with an instructor until 4:30pm on the outdoor ice rink to learn new skating skills and choreography. Skate rental is included in fee. Please be sure that your child dresses accordingly as all classes meet on the OUTDOOR rink. This includes socks, snow pants, jacket, hat, gloves.  Participants are expected to attend all 7 class dates, as it is very important to be present when learning and practicing choreography. Participants must also plan to attend the Skate Show dress rehearsal on Tuesday, December 9 from 5:30-7:30pm. Showtime skaters decide during the class session what costume is worn for the show. Costume fee is also included in registration.

Showtime: Junior (Tuesday evenings)

Has your child completed several Breck Skating School classes and/or private lessons and is ready for the next step in the skating world? Class participants may also bring 2 potential songs they would like to be included in program, keeping in mind the show theme, “That Was Then, This Is Now” (not all songs are guaranteed to be used.). Lastly, participants also help vote on the performance costumes they would like to wear during the show on Friday, December 12 at 7:00pm!
